Abstract:
"Eastern German regions are still characterised by lower rates of employment and higher unemployment rates than the western German regions. But individual eastern German regions are also developing in different ways. When one considers the situation from a geographical perspective there is a pattern: a circular structure with a moderately prospering centre in Berlin. Dresden and Leipzig constitute further regional centres in the south of eastern Germany." (Authors' abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
