Abstract: The utilisation of land resources has a direct impact on the environmental change, influencing the quality of life, ecosystems and global infrastructure. The paper analyses the changes that took place in the farmland use categories in 2002–2016. The dynamics of the number and size of holdings indicates a significant diminution in the number of farms and utilised agricultural area overall, highlighting the key changes in the structure of its land use categories. The diminution by 10.3% (1.43 million hectares) of the utilised agricultural area in 2016, as compared to 2002, indicates a potential risk of agricultural land abandonment, since these land areas are not included in the structure of any other land use categories.
