Abstract:
Since joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 2001, China has become an increasingly important player on the world general and agri-food markets. Since 2008, its agri-food trade balance has turned negative and the deficit increased continuously. The present paper explores the main features of the Chinese agri-food trade, and its exports, imports and trade balance with Romania. The results show that although the trade flows between the two countries increased significantly, the growth rate of the imports has been far higher than that of exports, resulting in a huge trade deficit for Romania.
