The Reproduction of Visual Pictures in Poetry Translation

Abstract: It is generally recognized that poetry is the most difficult genre of literature to translate because linguistic competence alone does not guarantee an overall transference of all poetic factors. The soul of poetry is its aesthetic sense which can be conveyed in the light of picture reproduction to achieve aesthetic harmony and evoke similar emotional response in target readers. To achieve this goal, a descriptive analysis of translated poems from two perspectives, namely, reproduction of formal beauty and inner beauty, reproduction of static and motional pictures, are discussed in this paper.
