Abstract: It is the primary responsibility of governments to embark on economic development programs. Recently, however, communities, non-governmental organizations, individuals, and private sectors are carrying out activities that lead to growth, economic productivity, and development. The objective of this paper is to examine some of the ways in which these entities use Operations Research (OR) tools in their efforts to facilitate the development of their societies and in the process alleviate poverty and foster social mobility.
