Investigating the influence of opportunistic behaviour risk factors on offshore outsourcing

Abstract: Different type of risks contributes to offshore outsourcing, which are not only difficult to measure but also complex to analyse because of intricate inter-relationships among them. Above all, opportunistic behaviour risk is related to the behaviour of service provider which may result in failure of coordination Therefore, in this paper, authors tried to abridge the gap between theory and practices by identifying various opportunistic behaviour risk factors and further developed an ISM model to analyse the influence of these risks on offshore outsourcing. Findings from the study indicate that communication gap and incomplete specification of work are strong drivers which influence other risk factors and ultimately affect offshore outsourcing. The work presented in the paper helps managers to identify and classify important criteria and to reveal the direct and indirect effects of each criterion on offshore outsourcing.
