Abstract: Industry 4.0 initiative has gathered the momentum and set a tone of discussion among the stakeholders, not only in the developed nations but also in other countries as well. Currently, this concept is motivating India to embrace innovative technologies to leapfrog into Industry 4.0. However, there are several potential challenges on the path to Industry 4.0. To address this issue, it is imperative to discern the potential barriers in its adoption. Therefore, the present study aims to identify and prioritise the barriers existing in Industry 4.0 adoption in the Indian manufacturing industry. Among the prioritised barriers, 'organisational barrier' is found to be the most significant challenge. This study also proposes recommendations for the removal of barriers. The present research has implication for researchers, practitioners and policy-makers associated with Industry 4.0 for exploring its adoption in Indian perspective. It could also assist in developing an indigenous roadmap to Industry 4.0.
