Decent work practices indicators in the construction projects of United Arab Emirates

Asadullah Khan

International Journal of Business Excellence, 2013, vol. 6, issue 4, 409-424

Abstract: The International Labour Organization (ILO) provides ten common indicators of decent work within its decent work country programme for all its member countries. This research paper established local decent work practices indicators in the project-based industry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These indicators are further sub-divided in their cultural context to identify the unique indicators of decent work practices relating to family and parental responsibilities. Further improvements to the working conditions of the construction workers in UAE would require action from the countries of origin of the migrant construction workers, besides implementing and amending the existing local labour laws for the protection of construction workers in the UAE.
