Abstract:
Employee innovativeness is crucial for firm effectiveness, competitiveness, and success in an increasingly knowledge-based economy. We examine systemic relationships among employees' perception of organisational support, the quality of leader-member exchanges, and leader intellectual stimulation on employee innovativeness. Findings from structural equation modelling show that the joint effects of a working environment perceived by employees as supportive, high-quality leader-subordinate relationships, and leader's intellectual stimulation efforts may generate synergetic effects on employee innovativeness. Importance-performance analysis affirms the centrality of perceived organisational support on employee innovativeness. Research results suggest the increasing importance of legacy and indirect leadership effects on employee innovativeness. Theoretical and managerial implications and directions for future research are discussed.
