Can structures foster creativity and innovation? The propositions based on a Giddens-inspired framework

Carmen Kobe

International Journal of Product Development, 2010, vol. 11, issue 3/4, 166-176

Abstract: Can structures foster creativity and innovation? This question is answered using a Giddens-inspired framework and data from an interview series on the development of innovation capability in companies. Three prepositions are made: (1) procedures can cause paralysis, (2) procedures emerge in many ways and (3) the long-term innovation capability of an organisation depends on its ability to reinvent its innovation procedures.

Keywords: innovation capability; out-of-the-box creativity; new product development; NPD; innovation processes; Giddens; organisational development; structuration theory; explorative interviews; framework. (search for similar items in EconPapers)
