Mad Max: travelling the fury road to learn economics

Abstract:
The use of film to teach economics is widely established. We extend this literature by analysing the critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). The apocalyptic setting focuses on core economic concepts such as scarcity, resource use, productivity, specialisation, gains from trade, economic organisation, growth, and income inequality. We also suggest an out-of-class assignment that is suitable in both face-to-face and online instruction.
