International Journal of Process Management and Benchmarking, 2024, vol. 18, issue 2, 183-215

Abstract: This article presented a value stream mapping approach based on the combination of Shingo's production mechanism and VSM 4.0 to assist in the detailed identification of activities that add and do not add value to operational flows. The intralogistics flows were mapped from the receipt to the storage of materials, as well as the picking order flow to the loading of transport equipment. In this practical application, the approach produced satisfactory results because, in addition to adding value to the flows (3.83% to 6.88%), the digitisation/automation rate (3.23% to 2.44%), use of information rate (0%) and rate of access to information (3.23% to 2.5%). The operators' memory was used as an informational means in both flows (95.77% to 97.56%) and the non-human and human resources used were also identified. The MIF aims to contribute to the identification of waste in operations management.
