The impact of psychological capital on employees' job performance: a moderated mediation model of workplace spirituality and work engagement

Abstract:
Psychological capital (PsyCap), workplace spirituality, and employee engagement all contribute significantly to an organisation's competitive advantage. The study examines the relationship between PsyCap and job performance, the mediating role of workplace spirituality, and the moderating role of work engagement. This study specifically recruited Tamil Nadu women who work in leather and leather-related manufacturing companies. A total of 600 female employees were contacted, and 524 responded positively to the questionnaire, achieving an 87.33% response rate. Using Smart PLS version 4.0.2, the researchers analysed the data using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings of the study indicate that all direct relationships, such as PsyCap and workplace spirituality, have a significant relationship with job performance. In addition, workplace spirituality partially mediates the relationship between PsyCap and job performance, while work engagement significantly moderates the relationship between workplace spirituality and job performance. The study provides numerous managerial implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research.
