Abstract: Manufacturing organisations these days are facing a tough time due to increased dynamism created by rapidly changing needs of the customer, fast changes in technology and market, etc. As these changes take place at a very fast pace, the organisations must be quick enough to respond to these changes. Therefore, organisations must be flexible to adapt to these conditions. Achieving strategic flexibility requires the presence of specific capabilities known as dynamic capabilities. In the recent past, the leading Indian manufacturing organisations have taken proactive as well as reactive initiatives to acquire these dynamic capabilities for achieving flexibility at strategic level. The present research is aimed at developing an insight into the prevalent situation of flexibility at strategic level, developed by the contemporary Indian manufacturing industry. In this study, analysis of 102 medium scale and large-scale Indian manufacturing organisations has been done to assess the level of dynamic capabilities and flexibility at strategic level.
