International Journal of Process Management and Benchmarking, 2018, vol. 8, issue 2, 246-261

Abstract: This study presents measurement of OEE which serves a basis for analysing operational efficiency in a manufacturing unit. Initially, measure of overall equipment effectiveness is described which explains what metrics make up this OEE and the losses that are classified under each of the metrics. Then it focuses on how OEE forms an integral part of the total productive maintenance activity. Its use and implementation in the manufacturing unit are analysed by calculating the OEE before and after making some modifications in the process by considering the case of die manufacturing equipment. This case study with longitudinal approach includes data collection and analysis of the process followed in a manufacturing unit. The operational data of OEE variables collected contribute in calculating availability, performance and quality, dimensions for measuring OEE. It also illustrates how the three OEE factors are determined and splits them into the specific constituents that are needed to develop the OEE percentage.
