Abstract: At the current situation, LM has grown to be a worldwide trend. This is a tentative study of lean manufacturing implementation in Indian industries. A questionnaire survey has been deployed to evaluate the contributions of lean manufacturing in Indian manufacturing industry. The analysis was executed on 34 Indian manufacturing organisations. All the respondents were selected from those organisations that are committed to imbibe various lean manufacturing practices. The study reveals that nearly all of the selected respondent firms are categorised as an evolution on the way to lean manufacturing practice and the organisations have paid more attention towards organisation operation and management, narrate to external relationships with suppliers and customers through various parameters. Such organisations think that the issues that drive lean manufacturing implementation include customer focus and organisation's ability to holistically imbibe continuous improvement initiatives. The results of this study have revealed that the major difficulty to implement lean manufacturing system in an organisation is the lack of understanding lean concepts and lack of appropriate understanding about lean techniques adopted by the organisations.
