The characteristics and evolution of services sector: evidence from P.R. China

Abstract: With the gradual opening of the services sector which China has committed to WTO, China has paid more and more attention to the services sector in recently years. On the base of the fact that the development of services sector may be far from the same around China, this paper aimed to enhance our understanding of the characteristics and evolution of services sector in China. This study presented an exploratory analysis of Chinese services sector using additively decomposable inequality measure, data reduction technique and statistical data. Our research found that state intervention has a very important role in outlining the major characteristics and evolution of services sector in China, and future growth of the services sector is likely to depend on a government open door and reform policy.
