Abstract: This paper describes and discusses the results of a national survey [1] on the use of mathematical models in plant maintenance decision making. The major points considered are: (1) The extent to which such models are used, (2) their potential financial benefits, and (3) the determinants of their use. Of special interest is the finding that these determinants are similar to those involved in the general problem of OR models in imiplementation, despite the technological character of maintenance decisions.
