Abstract:
An earlier paper describes the PERT analysis of a network of activities (Malcolm, D. G., J. H. Roseboom, C. E. Clark, W. Fazar. 1959. Application of a technique for research and development program evaluation. Opns Res. 7 646--669.), its analytic details, not written by a mathematician, are confusing to many analysts who continually request elucidation. This note is intended to answer the question most frequently asked, namely, whence the statements in that paper concerning the distribution of an activity time?
