Abstract:
A model of equipment failure and repair in which failures are not assumed to be instantly recognized is investigated. Two maintenance procedures are analyzed within this model with the assumption of independent and exponential failure and repair rates. The first considers continuous monitoring of the spares, the second no monitoring. Equations for the pertinent probabilities are derived together with loss equations for comparing the two procedures. Examples and curves are included to demonstrate the results.
