Letter to the Editor—The Distribution of Busy Time for a Simple Queue

Abstract: In a single channel queue with Poisson arrivals and exponential service, an arbitrary interval of length τ can be decomposed into busy time, t , and idle time, t 0 = τ − t . The frequency function for t is derived for the stationary process.
