Abstract: A system with constant failure rate must be operable at time T . Prior to this we permit only one check-out, and one repair if necessary. How far should we “back off” from T in scheduling check out? Approximate solutions are derived for exponential and log normal repair time distributions, with graphical results in the latter case.
