Abstract: During grain harvest, especially wheat harvest in the Central Great Plains, truck queuing at country grain elevators is a problem. Truck waiting times were studied for three types of receiving systems, using information from limited field studies and simulation using electronic computers. Several methods of evaluating truck waiting costs were investigated. From the information on waiting times and costs, the optimal capacities of receiving systems for different ranges of truck receipts were determined. Several methods of improving truck receiving at country elevators were discovered.
