Abstract: The solution of a general attrition model for two-sided battles between heterogeneous forces is obtained under the assumption that (1) interaction between the two sides takes place by an exchange of volleys, (2) each participating unit follows a prescribed attack pattern rather than adapting its behavior to the situation, and (3) target survival is stochastically independent of the actions of other fire units.
