The Theorem of the Alternative in Social Choice Theory

Abstract: This paper presents two theorems for the existence of solutions for finite systems of linear inequalities and equalities and applies them to three problems in social choice theory. The primary purpose of the paper is to show how the theorems may be used in axiomatic investigations with finite systems.
