Abstract: This paper obtains the distributions of attained and residual service for a general class of queuing systems. The attained service of an incompletely serviced job is the portion of its processing time that it has already been allocated and its residual service is the portion to be allocated. An expression is found for the average total unfinished work in the system. Examples of these results are also given.
