Abstract: This note gives two counterexamples to the single-cut procedure of Tokegas, Swain, Revelle, and Bergman [ Opns. Res. 19, 1363–1373 (1971)] for solving the simple set-covering problem: the first shows that a single cut may not always be sufficient, the second that the cut may not always result in an integer optimal solution.
