Abstract:
The paper studies the problem of determining the measurements of a given number of sizes of apparel so as to maximize expected sales or minimize an index of discomfort. It develops general necessary conditions for optimization in one control body dimension and calculates optimal sizes for the special case where the population distribution is normal.
