Abstract: This paper describes a methodology for investigating optimal production polices for hydrocarbon reservoirs by an approach that brings together reservoir simulation models and numerical optimization techniques. It describes the results of applying this methodology to a dry gas storage reservoir using a single phase, two-dimensional reservoir simulator. The paper investigates optimal production strategies for several optimization criteria and potential constraints on reservoir operations, and discusses extensions to more complex systems.
