Abstract: These remarks, adapted from remarks made at a symposium entitled “Perspectives on the Future of OR/MS” at the May 1984 ORSA/TIMS meeting in San Francisco, use a view of the history and current state of OR/MS as the basis for projecting possible futures for the profession, with special attention to ways of achieving growth.
