Abstract:
T. W. Wall, D. Greening and R. E. D. Woolsey produced a geometric programming based technique for solving the system of nonlinear equations that arise from the kinetic approach to finding the composition of a chemical system at equilibrium. I argue that one should consider using nonlinear programming to solve these equations. This approach is illustrated by solving the example given by Wall, Greening and Woolsey. A pencil and paper solution to that problem is also given.
