Abstract: The news in the amusement-park industry, and in Walt Disney's weekly ABC-TV series, is the building of Disneyland, described by the Disney studio as “a combination world's fair, playground, museum of living facts, and show-place of beauty and magic.” In helping Walt Disney select a site for Disneyland and plan its economics, we found that the amusement-park industry is not all fantasy: it offers some intriguing opportunities for quantitative research on operations. Operations Research , ISSN 0030-364X, was published as Journal of the Operations Research Society of America from 1952 to 1955 under ISSN 0096-3984.
