Abstract:
A simple and rapid method of estimating the maximal steady state flow of traffic through a railway network is described and illustrated by examples The method, as presently described, is entirely empirical in character and no generality is claimed. Essentially, it is an illustration of the application of the techniques of gaming to certain classes of mathematical problems. This study is an outcome of a suggestion by General F. S. Ross (U.S.A., Ret.), T. E. Harris, and others, and it has been prepared as a contribution to their much broader project.
