Abstract: Discussion about an important contribution to the theory of inventory planning by F. Modigliani and F. E. Horn (F. Modigliani and F. E. Hohn, “Production Planning Over Time and the Nature of the Expectation and Planning Horizon,” Econometrica , vol. 23 , No. 1 (1955). A similar model was developed by Schneider in 1938, cf. E. Schneider, “Absatz, Produktion und Lagerhaltung bei einfacher Produktion,” Archiv für mathematische Wirtschafts und Sozialforschung 4 (1938), and T. M. Whitin, “Erich Schneider's Inventory Control Analysis,” Opns Res 2 , 329--334 (1954).).
