Letter to the Editor---A Generalized PERT

Abstract: I read with interest the article “Application of a Technique for Research and Development Program Evaluation” by Malcolm, Roseboom, Clark, and Fazar in the September--October, 1959, issue of Operations Research (vol. 7, pp. 646--669). It seems to me that the next step in the development of the network technique, PERT, described therein, is its generalization to include resources and technical performance as well as ‘time’ (presently the only measure of effectiveness considered). To this end, I should like to make a few comments.
