Abstract:
A recent paper in this journal by Hendrickson and Kocur (Hendrickson, C., G. Kocur. 1981. Schedule delay and departure time decisions in a deterministic model. Transp. Sci. 15 62--77.) presents a deterministic model of peak period commuting, where departure times, arrival patterns and commuting costs are solved for. It may interest readers to know that this problem in a form almost identical to Hendrickson and Kocur was first solved by Vickrey (Vickrey, W. S. 1969. Congestion theory and transport investment. Am. Econ. Rev. 59 251--261.). Author's Closure follows.
