Abstract:
Robert Herman, a past president of ORSA and one of the founders and the first chairman of the Transportation Science Section, passed away in Austin, Texas, on February 13, 1997. Herman is internationally recognized as the originator of traffic science. His contributions span the entire 40 years of scientific activity in this field.
