Diaspora Experiences in Multicultural VS Melting Pot Societies: Lessons from the Indian Diaspora in the U.S. and Canada

Abstract: We examine the experiences of the Indian diaspora in the U.S. and Canada and explain how acculturation policy differences could have led to differing outcomes for diaspora activities in host countries. Using the different acculturation frameworks in these two countries as the basis for our historical analysis, we derive some lessons as to how differences in host country acculturation policies can lead to differences in integration outcomes for the diasporas and the host countries themselves.
