Abstract: The present paper represents our attempt to decipher the literary ideas that Henry James, Northrop Frye and David Lodge brought in criticism, therefore our main focus is on The Art of Fiction and The Art of the Novel, both belonging to Henry James, The Anatomy of Criticism-by Northrop Frye and The Art of Fiction of David Lodge. Particular attention is going to be given to Henry James and the concepts that he introduced in narratology, to the way Frye and Lodge regard ”The Master’s” work from a critic point of view.
