Abstract: In the context of the reforms in the Romanian society, accelerated in the last years, a critical analysis of what the high school graduation examination (still) represents nowadays is imposed: for students and parents, teachers and managers in the educational system, as well as for the legislators who establish the regulations for the national educational system. Using the data of a field survey carried out in four high school educational institutions from Iasi city, the paper presents an empirical analysis of the attitude towards the high school graduation examination the high school students manifest. The quantitative processing and the critical discussion were based on the answers offered by 248 high school students from the IX-XII grades. The data is analyzed critically, being related to the perspective of reviewing the mission of the high school graduation examination and the regulations regarding its evolution.
