Abstract: Within the perspective given by the social sciences, the study of memory is an example of qualitative research method, an area which has faced major changes and revivals since the 70s. From this point of view, the paper reanalayses the concept of memory, its definitions and possible meanings, in order to delineate a specific form of memory which is enabled through oral history. The life stories method or the biographical method, as well as the one type of interview known as life story are just a few examples of approaches towards social sciences, especially in History and Sociology. Also, we refer to notions regarding the pair: the memory of the places and the places of memory, as distinct expressions used for the same place, settlement, personality etc., whose symbolic meaning made them a landmark for their community. The references are to theoretical studies regarding oral history, local history as well as memory. It is an interdisciplinary approach, enabling the analysis of memory and history from other perspectives.
