Abstract: Mircea Eliade's work is complex and Western and Indian influences intertwine in it. Eliade remains in the history of literature and philosophy as one of the most important authors, who managed to define the characteristics of both worlds, weaving topics such as love and culture, religion, etc. The research that we want to achieve is composed of three parts and this study is dedicated only to the European culture and mentality of the work of the great philosopher. Regarding the work of Eliade, we considered it appropriate to structure the analysis into three parts; this is the first part of our study. Concerning the complexity of the study, we want to emphasize that Eliade cannot be analyzed only from one perspective alone, as in the work aspects of culture, philosophy and sociology are intertwined. We want to bring to the fore certain issues concerning the European culture and mentality; the other two parts of our work will deal with the Indian culture and mentality and later on we will make a comparative analysis of the two types of mentalities.
