Abstract: Gender Studies represent a relatively new field in the area of humanistic and social sciences. Since their apparition, they generated major changes in academy and society; they are responsible, in part, for the way that social universe looks nowadays, continuing to shape its form, drawing attention to gender inequalities and designing ways to remedy injustice. The purpose of our study is to analyze the evolution of gender studies focusing on the way they contributed to the dramatic transformations of society in the last decades. We try to find, at the same time, some answers to the questions that this academic field must face in the light of the new challenges imposed both by its evolution and by the development of society.
