A New Social Contract

Abstract: The economic calamity of the past few years has done enormous damage to the American worker. Political analyst Sherle Schwenninger argues that the very design of the American social contract is now seriously challenged. The social safety net of other rich countries has limited economic suffering far better than America's has. It is time to formulate a new social contract, he argues.
