What Causes Obesity? And Why Has It Grown So Much?

Abstract: Obesity in the United States is widely acknowledged to be a severe and growing problem, especially among the young. Can economists contribute to understanding the causes of obesity? This economist proposes a model that includes nonrational decisionmaking. It is a useful start to understanding a complex process.
