The Benefits of Poverty

Abstract: The United States has a safety net, albeit a miserly one, for the poor. Most of those who work contribute to it with the taxes they pay. But could there also be benefits to poverty for society and even the wealthy? Indeed, there are, and talking about them helps us understand our society better.
