Superfluous Workers

Herbert Gans

Challenge, 2012, vol. 55, issue 4, 94-103

Abstract: It may be time to consider that the United States has fewer jobs than workers and that some will therefore become superfluous. The author says we should categorize and count them and invent new jobs or income sources. Understanding that workers can become superfluous must alter our thinking about the U.S. economy.
