Europe in Mid-Life Crisis
Roland Benedikter
Challenge, 2014, vol. 57, issue 5, 33-52
Abstract:
Europe today is not the only geopolitical area in transition. All the major global powers—Europe, China, Russia, and the United States—are navigating through domestic crises. But contrary to conventional wisdom, aside from its damaging austerity economics, Europe may be leading the way to a new model of political development. Call it "union that respects differences," says the author. Thus the leading geopolitical areas need to work together to solve their problems but allow breathing room for deep differences.
