Iceland’s New Constitution Is Not Solely a Local Concern

Abstract: Is democracy failing in Iceland? – asks the author. The financial collapse of 2008 provoked a response from the Parliament to canvass 950 randomly selected citizens about revising the constitution, which many believed enabled the crisis. In a national referendum, two-thirds of voters accepted a newly drawn constitution. But Parliament has not yet ratified it.
