The right to a job: a Post Keynesian perspective

Abstract: Until the 1970s, the idea that workers had a right to a job was a subject of lively debate, at least among progressives. The dominance of the neoclassical perspective since that time has all but eliminated discussion of such a right. In this paper, we argue that a Post Keynesian understanding of a capitalist economy, along with an account of the nature of a person that we believe best fits the Post Keynesian view, not only makes possible a rebirth of interest in the idea of a right to a job but also provides a strong reason for believing that Post Keynesians must be committed to such a right.
